24. Bill Bailey Comedy Collection

Cosmic Jam (1995)
So I am going to take a break from the movies and TV shows to review a series of DVD's of my favourite stand-up comedian Bill Bailey and just have a run through his various routines that are out at the minute.
I have always like the style of Bill Bailey that he doesn't swear or make sexist jokes that he is surreal and uses music in combination with comedy which is different to a lot of the various comedians out there.
Cosmic Jam is the first DVD released and is the poorer one mainly because it is the first one and Bill Bailey behaves almost scared of cameras and shys away from the audience, his style is not as polished as in the other routines and his jokes feel a little unrehearsed. However, there are some jokes that are roll on the floor funny and songs that can make you wet yourself, and with all the downfalls it is still funny which is what you can ask for from a stand up.
Best Joke: The three blokes go into a pub jokes.
Best Song: Human slaves in an Insect Nation
Bewilderness (2001)
Bewilderness is in my opinion the best of the stand up DVD's and has so many jokes and songs in that make it wonderful and the fact that it is done in front of a Welsh audience which for some reason are the funniest audience out of all five that are shown.
There is a better variety of jokes and a more refined stock of impressions and musical talent, the routine still seems a bit jerky though and some of the jokes don't quite pull off so well as they should have done but it is still good to watch and the songs are a lot better than on all of the other DVD's.
Best Joke: Stebbington Bailey's story books
Best Song: Disenfranchised Owl
Part Troll (2004)
Part Troll is the first routine I saw when it was released and I watched it so many times and it remained funny throughout and it is definitely the point where his style has been fixed and that he knows how he is going to do his performances and the jokes are all funny and he seems more confident throughout.
There are some jokes that nowadays seem a little wrong but then again this is because it is six years old and times have changed a lot. His rapport with the audience is a lot better here and he seems to command the laughter a lot more easily than in the previous two DVD's.
Best Joke: The tapestry and the Kittens
Best Song: Kraftwerk's Hokey Cokey
Tinselworm (2008)
Tinselworm is an ok DVD it wasn't as funny as the previous DVD's and maybe should be joint bottom with Cosmic Jam but it does have some redeeming features.
I am very sorry to say this but this one feels a bit like a sell out especially when he sings the Love Song at the end it felt a bit old and needed updating. The jokes aren't bad but they feel the same as I have heard before and I didn't like this one.
Best Joke: The AA letter
Best Song: Indian Dueling Banjos
Remarkable Guide To The Orchestra (2009)
This is a different one, it is not a pure stand up comedy and it is mot a pure factual DVD but it has great elements of both. I will say if you go into this expecting a stand up then you will be disappointed but it is funny and it is very interesting, and if you expect a perfect guide to the orchestra then it will be a little disappointing.
I know I am getting on a bit when I start to enjoy all classical music and this is a fantastic opening to that world and I enjoyed it a lot and it made me laugh and think about what I like.
Best Joke:The swan on cowbells
Best Song: Cockney William Tell Overture
